Cholesterol-lowering medicine

Atorvamed contains Atorvastatin, a widely prescribed statin used to manage dyslipidemia and prevent cardiovascular events. It effectively lowers bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while raising good cholesterol (HDL).

Recommended as a first-line treatment for hyperlipidemia, Atorvamed plays a critical role in reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis, especially in diabetic and hypertensive patients.

Uses:

  • Hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia
  • Primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events
  • Reducing elevated cholesterol in patients with diabetes or hypertension
  • Adjunct to diet in managing elevated lipid levels

Key Benefits:

  • Powerful lipid-lowering action
  • Reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Slows the progression of plaque build-up in arteries
  • Improves overall lipid profile
  • Supports long-term heart and brain health

How It Works

Atorvastatin works by inhibiting HMG–CoA reductase, an enzyme responsible for cholesterol production in the liver. This results in lower circulating LDL and triglycerides, and an increase in HDL levels, leading to improved heart health and reduced risk of vascular complications.

Common Side Effects

  • Muscle aches or weakness
  • Mild gastrointestinal discomfort (bloating, diarrhea)
  • Headache or tiredness
  • Elevated liver enzymes

Safety Warnings

  • Pregnancy: Not safe due to potential harm to fetal development
  • Lactation: Avoid
  • Children: Approved for ≥10 yrs with familial hypercholesterolemia (under supervision)
  • Elderly: Increased monitoring advised
  • Liver Disease: Not advised in active/persistent elevated liver enzymes
  • Alcohol Use: Limit to reduce hepatic stress

Important Note

Atorvamed is a prescription-only medicine. Lipid levels should be monitored regularly. Avoid alcohol. Must be taken under physician supervision, especially if there’s a history of liver or kidney disease.
