Clopidomed contains Clopidogrel 75 mg, a widely used P2Y12 platelet inhibitor that helps prevent the formation of harmful blood clots. It is used in individuals who have had recent heart attacks, strokes, or have established peripheral artery disease (PAD) or coronary artery disease (CAD). Often prescribed as part of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with aspirin after procedures like stent placements.

Uses:

  • Prevention of myocardial infarction (MI) and ischemic stroke
  • Treatment post-angioplasty or stent placement
  • Management of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)
  • Secondary prevention in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS)

Key Benefits:

  • Reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular events
  • Essential for patients undergoing PCI or coronary stenting
  • Supports better blood circulation by preventing platelet aggregation
  • Helps in long-term secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease

How It Works

Clopidogrel works by irreversibly blocking the P2Y12 ADP receptor on platelets, preventing their activation and aggregation. This inhibits clot formation, particularly in arteries narrowed by atherosclerosis, lowering the risk of potentially life-threatening events like heart attack or stroke.

Common Side Effects

  • Bleeding (nosebleeds, bruising, prolonged bleeding)
  • Indigestion or abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash (in rare cases)

Safety Warnings

  • Pregnancy: Use only if needed and prescribed by a healthcare provider.
  • Lactation: Not recommended; consult a doctor for alternatives.
  • Children: Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.
  • Bleeding Risk: Avoid in patients with active bleeding disorders or recent surgery.
  • Drug Interactions: Caution with NSAIDs, anticoagulants, or PPIs (consult your doctor).
  • Surgery: Inform your doctor or dentist before any surgery or dental work, as this medicine increases bleeding risk.

Important Note

Clopidomed is a prescription medication and should not be used without doctor consultation. It may need to be stopped temporarily before surgical procedures — always follow your doctor’s advice. Never self-adjust dosage or discontinue suddenly without medical supervision, especially if you’ve had stents or recent cardiac events.
